Important Artifacts And Personal Property From The Collection Of Evelina Levi Broglio

I've never been to a real auction but expecially after reading (and loving, oh how much I loved that little thing!) this book I'm pretty obsessed. And when I heard the whole wardrobe of one of the most interesting and beautiful italian jet set lady will be auctioned by Il Ponte I almost screamed.


Bright blue eyes, fierce and effortlessy chic, Evelina Levi Broglio passed away a couple years ago after a novel-like life spent traveling around the world. Her friends included all the most important designers - Christiam Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Gianni Versace, Gianfranco Ferrè, Raffaella Curiel, who created one of a kind dreams just for her.










More than simple clothes and accessories, every single piece from her collection has for sure a story to tell.








So, if you're in Milano these days, you can't miss the event: all the wonderful pieces from Evelina Levi Broglio's wardrobe will be showcased from 7th to 9th May in Palazzo Crivelli, Via Pontaccio 12. Then, from 11th to 13th May the amazing lots (there are over 1000!) will be all sold by auction in the same location.

Nadinoo At Work

This Is Naive is a blog I'm following from a while now. Tommy is a talented photographer and I like how shes' always able to focus on those little details, so small yet so nice and interesting. Also, I have a real thing for her Lo-Fi travel guides!

One of the latest Tommy's features is about "people at work", a series of regular posts where she visually describe the art and everyday life of talented people.

So, when I heard she was about to feature the work of Nadia Izruna, the girl behind Nadinoo I couldn't be happier and the post didn't disappoint me indeed!

Vintage Sartorialist

One of the thing I recently enjoyed the most was the first photo contest Scott The Sartorialist Schuman ran last month.



The Vintage Photo Contest was - obviously - about vintage photos, and if you're following me you may know how much I like to indulge in old pictures from my family, but also from unknown people. And photos that come with a story are the best, like when you purchase a vintage dress and people tell you about its original owner...



So a lot of people were involved in the Sartorialist contest and sent him the most beautiful images they own, from 20s to early 80s, of their stylish family members. And each entry came with a brief introduction.

Vintage L.A.

In a few words, I bought an amazing book and I'm totally sure this will be a perfect Christmas present for any vintage and travels addicted.


I always looked at travel guides as wishlists more than practical books. A way to escape from reality in a certain way: in a cold winter afternoon when you lay on your coach with flu and sore throat, you can always imagine to travel to your favorite spots feeling great with a warm sun kissing your skin!
So it doesn't matter if I'm a million green counties from sunny California and I'm not currently planning any trip to L.A. (any trip anywhere indeed...), I'm totally hooked on this book!

Vintage L.A. is an amazing guide to every amazing vintage spots - boutiques, decor, landmarks, markets & more - in this amazing city. A guided tour of a glittery town, home of oh so many marvellous stories.






Featuring gorgeous, gorgeous pictures and interviews to cool Angelenos (Mark Ryden too!!), this guide will take you from Westside to Hollywood, from the Valley to Beverly Hills to L.A. sadly lost vintage landmarks. It's a book full of colors and fascinating old school stories. Definitely my thing!


The author, the L.A. native and lifelong resident and former Elle Girl columnist Jennifer Brandt Taylor - a super cool and stylish redhaired girl, by the way - has relocated to New York City where she's working on her next book, Vintage New York. And I can't wait for this one too!!

Lovely Head

If there is an Hollywood costume designer with an intriguing personality, that is Edith Head.


She was born in Nevada in 1897 and after becaming a language teacher she started taking drawing classes. In 1924, despite her lack of experience, she was hired by Paramount Pictures, gaining a job in their costume department. She began designing costumes for silent movies and during the 30s she became one of the most important Hollywood designers.
During her long career she has worked for Paramount and Universal, on Hitchcock movies and was a favorite designer for stars like Barbara Stanwick, Bette Davis and Shirley Maclaine. She was nominated for 35 Academy Awards and won 8, more than any other woman in Hollywood history. She also took part in some tv shows, giving style tips, like the modern Rachel Zoe &Co.!


This could sounds as a fairytale but Head is not at all the classic heroine princess you may figure out in your mind...

She was a strange woman, very private and low profile but with a perpetual iconic look: a full flat bangs - apparently copied by Anna May Wong - and the round dark glasses, that almost surely inspired the styling of the character of Edna Mode in The Incredibles.


Also, she had a great talent and during her long career she had designed some of the most remembered movies outfits, but despite all this she had a very controverse personality. Why? First of all she got her job at Paramount stealing another student's sketches for the interview and she did it again several times during the last part of her career: she used to take credit for other people's work, like when she accepted the Oscar for Sabrina, when we all know (now) that Hepburn's stunning outfits were designed by Givenchy.


Unfair? All in all, the only thing I know for sure is that I'll never forget the outfits Edith Head has created for Grace Kelly in Rear Window and To Catch a Thief. She did great things, when she did them for real...
