Blackcherry

According to comments I noticed a lot of people seem to like my livingroom saffron wall, but probably not so much people know that every room in my house is colored. I mean not only a single wall, but every wall and cieling too.
When I moved here I thought it would be nice to live in a set of colorful cubes and so I found my favorite color tones and I did it! I like to live in colors as much as I like colorful clothes, so apart from bathrooms and kitchen that are white (but with some colored details in orange, bright red and pink here and there) I have a peacock blue room, a sage green one and...a blackcherry red bedroom.
I knew immediately my bedroom must be painted in a boudoir color and has to have opulent boudoir details - a huge ancient gold framed mirror and a big chandelier - mixed with a few minimal white furniture, just the bed and closets.

So, after the recent Spring cleaning, I can finally show you the red room.
Follow me...and click the picture to enlarge!

I know I need to hang something better than the Ikea paper lanterns that are currently here, I promise I'll work soon on it!

The mirror was already in my previous house, the Castle
. I always loved it, so decadent.
The black boxes are for jewellery and fabric flowers.

I have two closets, one for coats/sweaters/pants/skirts/bags and an entire one only for dresses! If I'll keep on buying them, I'll probably need a new closet soon...
A lot of my dresses are vintage and brightly printed...it's a fun closet!

I stored the shoes in identical yellow boxes (you can see some of them in the previous picture) with description and a photo of what is inside. Apart from the dresses closet, most of them are on top of the two closets!
Here is only a 10%...

I use this corner to showcase some of the "hits of the month", jewellery, bags, scarves...
In this period it feature a vintage leather and bakelite clutch, a Helen Rochfort handbag, my always favorite "animals" (see the lovely magpie necklace by Paraphernalia and the new giraffe bracelet) and some of the vintage scarves from my mother. From right to left: The Carousel, an abstract one from Jean Patou and my favorite, the gorgeous Mushroom Love Gucci by Accornero.

Hope you liked this little tour, a new "colored cube" will come soon ;-)

Shopping, Cooking, Tagging

I'm so sorry for these last 10 days with no posts...I wrote about the troubles with Internet at home but my ADSL is still on holiday and I just found anything won't change until April 24th (at least, at this point!). I'm currently a 53K snail and although I can read a few blogs, I can't visualize the pictures so it's often not much fun!

With this change of perspectives I had to find new things to do during the few free moments at home, so I had a massive Spring cleaning in my closets and bedroom (when I'll be completely back to blog I'll finally can show it!) and I tried the Bagels recipe I saved on my pc so long ago. Yum.

If sun will shine again bringing some warm days I hope to make a little Sunday brunch every week :-)

Of course I also did shopping and I received little "presents" in the mail so pictures will come too!

Last but not least, Fruchtzwerg's Island tagged me and despite to my slow reply, here are my answers :-)

8 things I am passionate about:

* Cinema and TV series
* Art
* The 50's (and early 60's)
* Lonely Planet Guides
* Vintage dresses
* Food (real and fake!)
* Anthropology, expecially antropology of death (sounds creepy?!?)
* Old photos and home movies

6 things I want to do before I die:

* Have a family (this sounds creepy too!)
* Have a (secret) garden with all sorts of flowers and fruit trees
* An Orient Express trip
* Learn how to walk (decently) in high heels
* Visit many places in the US, Hong Kong and Japan
* A photography class

8 things I say often:

* By the way...
* I'm late (but I'm always before time!)
* I must be brave
* I'm sorry (too often...)
* At least

Well, I can think only 5 right now, there are probably italian words I can't properly translate!

8 books I have read lately:

I must confess my own guild and sadly admit from January till now I read only 4 or 5 books (and actually I did't fall in love with them) so forgive me but I'll go with my last 3 years favorites :-)

* The Way The Crow Flies - Ann-Marie MacDonald
* The Dogs Of Babel - Carolyn Parkhurst
* Glass Soup - Jonathan Carroll
* Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close - Jonathan Safran Foer
* The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
...a lot more than last 3 years, but still big favorites:
* The Comfort Of Strangers - Ian McEwan
* Asylum - Patrick McGrath
* The Virgin Suicides - Jeffrey Eugenides
* Interpreter of Maladies - Jhumpa Lahiri

8 songs I could listen to over and over:

* Don't Look Away - The Magnetic Fields
* Make Up - Psapp
* True Affection - The Blow
* Sunday Girl - Blondie
* One Night Stand - The Pipettes
* Downtown - Petula Clark
* Family Tree - Belle&Sebastian
* One April Day - Stephin Merritt

8 things that attract me to best friends:

Oh...really, I don't know! Here it's not about "things", it's all about that specific person!

Probably at today everyone around here has been already tagged...but I'll try and pass it to:
The Capricious Club
Childhood Flames
Dance With Me Forever
Sophisticated Pufs
Because I'm Addicted

Isabeli And The Dream Of Horses

I'm having troubles with pc/Internet at home (hopefully everything will be fixed before Sunday and I'll be back reading blogs and replying to comments), but at least I'm having good mail days... Yesterday and today the postman came with a lot of big packages for me: so nice, it was like an April Christmas or a belated Easter treat!

One of the best treats came from Buzz Paradize, who sent me a fab lingerie set from the French brand Passionata.
This set feature a new print called Passio in a seductive palette of black and pink, the fabric is really wonderful so it will surely be comfortable to wear (I'll try it soon!) and the details are great (love the little ribbons and the lace Passionata logo on the bra).

With the underwear also came a cd with the making-of of the new advertising campaign, from David La Chapelle.

A sexy fairytale, a pink dream in a boudoir atmosphere where the beautiful Isabeli Fontana really - as wrote on the website - "unlocks the unexpected" and melts the heart of a gigantic ice horse wearing nothing else than the fantastic Passionata lingerie.

I Should Comb My Hair

I don't feel too confortable wearing big flowers in my hair, although I did it sometimes when I was a young young innocent girl...but after all the uber stylish feather fascinators seen everywhere, I thought maybe I could try with some small hair combs...
Instead of classic fabric or silk flower, I was searching for a good alternative and today I found Roses Are Red, an Etsy seller, who make fantastic colorful little things using vintage plastic and lucite beads and cabochon.

The hair accessories are my favorites, but in the store you can also find some nice pieces of jewelry.

Juicy Denim

I did not go to the Bronx like LC, but after I saw her yellow pants, I thought I had to give them a try.
Bright colored denim is quite popular here right now, so I simply went to the nearest (affordable!) store and in 15 minutes I was the proud owner of a pair of juicy jeans.

So this morning, unexpected day off from work (yay!), I opened that black hole my messy closet is and looking for some possible outfits.
I paired the pants with every possible color combo, even a risky risky red + purple, but in the end I admit I liked all the mix I tried on!

Once again Spring is all about colors for me :-)

The Camille Skirt

It was time for a new DYI project and it was time for a new skirt. A red one, cause even if red is my favorite color, I had not red skirts. Until yesterday at least!

Thank you to Camille - my new hero - and her fabulous blog, and despite of my awful sewing skills, now there is a new skirt in my closet.

Inspired by Miu Miu Spring 2008 collection,

Camille made some wonderful "miu miu-esque puff skirts" and days ago she posted a detailed tutorial for making them. All of my previous sewing project have gone bad, but I knew I had to try this one, so I bought a nice red cotton fabric and keeping my fingers crossed (well, not really) I began to sew...

I made it a little bit longer than the ones Camille made, so it looks a little bit less poufy, but I still like it!
After an hour these are the results:

Can't wait to make another one! And maybe a shorter one too. I think it should looks perfect with a pair of little ice skater boots...
